In kindergarten, students work on becoming independent students as well as learning how to be readers, writers and mathematicians. We follow the Georgia Standards of Excellence. Students will learn the alphabet along with the basic features of letters and words. They will break down spoken and written words into syllables and letters and identify the sounds each letter makes. This work will enable your child to learn new words and to read and understand simple books and stories. Students will also learn to write and share information. They will begin by drawing then progress to writing letters and words, as well as work on listening to others and speaking aloud. In math, your child will focus on learning numbers, what they represent, as well as begin to understand the concept of addition and subtraction. Students will also learn to identify and work with shapes. We believe that learning is an exciting adventure! We work hard to provide learning experiences that meet the needs of all our students and enrich their learning through inquiry.
